पिथौरागढ़ : लंदन फोर्ट का नाम बदलकर सोरगढ़ किला किए जाने की मांग जल्द पूरा होने की उम्मीद है। मुख्यमंत्री के जनपद आगमन पर इसकी घोषणा संभव है। 

नगर के मध्य में स्थित लंदन फोर्ट का निर्माण 18 वीं शताब्दी के अंतिम वर्षों में हुआ। शुरू आत में इस किले को बाऊलकीगढ़ नाम से जाना जाता रहा। गोरखा फौज इसी किले में रहती थी। 1813 में कुमाऊं पर अंग्रेजों के आधिपत्य के बाद किले का नाम बदलकर लंदन फोर्ट कर दिया गया। देश की आजादी के बाद इस किले से तहसील कार्यालय का संचालन हुआ। वर्तमान में इसे ऐतिहासिक धरोहर घोषित कर दिया गया है। सीमांत जिले के लोग लंबे समय से इस किले का नाम सोरगढ़ किला किए जाने की मांग कर रहे हैं। रामलीला कमेटी प्रबंधकारिणी के अध्यक्ष भूपेंद्र सिंह माहरा की अगुवाई में यह मांग लगातार उठाई जा रही है। पूर्व कैबिनेट मंत्री स्व.प्रकाश पंत ने इस मांग को आगे बढ़ाया था। उनके निधन के बाद मामला आगे नहीं बढ़ पाया। 

रामलीला कमेटी अध्यक्ष भूपेंद्र सिंह माहरा का कहना है कि किला सोर घाटी के मध्य में स्थित है और इसको बनाने में स्थानीय लोगों का श्रम लगा है। किले का नाम सोरघाटी के नाम पर होना चाहिए। उन्होंने बताया कि इस संबंध में भाजपा जिलाध्यक्ष वीरेंद्र सिंह वल्दिया से वार्ता हो चुकी है। भाजपा जिलाध्यक्ष किले का नाम बदले जाने को लेकर मुख्यमंत्री से वार्ता कर रहे हैं। मुख्यमंत्री के जनपद आगमन पर किले का नाम बदलकर सोरगढ़ किला हो जाने की उम्मीद है।
