जर्जर हालत होते हुए भी चौरासी कुटिया से पार्क प्रशासन लाखों रुपये कमा रहा है। बीते सात साल यहां आने वाले पर्यटकों से करीब 3.5 करोड़ का राजस्व प्राप्त हुआ। यदि आश्रम को विकसित कर दिया जाए तो ये पार्क प्रशासन के लिए मील का पत्थर साबित होगा।

करीब 18 एकड़ भूमि में फैला बीटल्स आश्रम ऋषिकेश के गंगा नदी के किनारे राजाजी टाइगर रिजर्व पार्क के अंदर स्थित है। साल 1961 में महर्षि महेश योगी ने पार्क प्रशासन से यह भूमि लीज पर लेकर यहां चौरासी कुटिया का निर्माण कर योग और ध्यान की शिक्षा शुरू की थी। देश-विदेश से लोग यहां ध्यान करने के लिए पहुंचते थे। 60 के दशक में मशहूर इंग्लैंड के प्रसिद्ध बीटल्स बैंड ग्रुप के चार सदस्य जॉन लेनन, पॉल मैक कार्टनी, जॉर्ज हैरिसन और रिंगो स्टार 1968 में यहां ध्यान और शांति के लिए पहुंचे थे।

वे यहां चार महीने ठहरे। इस दौरान उन्होंने आश्रम में ध्यान, योग की शिक्षा के साथ ही करीब 40 गानों की धुन तैयार की थी। करीब 13 साल तक यह आश्रम धीरे-धीरे खंडहर में तब्दील हो गया। साल 2000 में पार्क प्रशासन ने इस आश्रम को अपने कब्जे में ले लिया। 8 दिसंबर 2015 को पार्क प्रशासन ने चौरासी कुटिया के द्वार देशी, विदेशी पर्यटकों के लिए खोल दिए। आश्रम में प्रवेश करने के लिए पार्क प्रशासन ने प्रवेश शुल्क निर्धारित कर दिया। इसमें विदेशी पर्यटकों के लिए 600 और भारतीय पर्यटकों के लिए 150 रुपये शुल्क रखा गया।

विकास की बातें सिर्फ कागजों तक सीमित
आश्रम में बनी छोटी-छोटी 110 चौरासी कुटिया के अलावा पुरानी कलाकृतियां आकर्षण का केंद्र हैं। इसे देखने के लिए कई वीआईपी आए। वनमंत्री सुबोध उनियाल ने भी आश्रम का निरीक्षण किया। उन्होंने आश्रम के पुराने स्वरूप को बरकरार रखते हुए नवीनीकरण और सौंदर्यीकरण का काम कराने का भरोसा दिया था। अभी तक ये प्रयास केवल दस्तावेजों तक ही सीमित हैं। पर्यटन विभाग ने भी इस आश्रम को विकसित करने की योजना बनाई लेकिन उनकी योजना भी कागजों में ही सिमट गई। सात साल में अब तक इस आश्रम से करीब 3.5 करोड़ का राजस्व प्राप्त हुआ है। पार्क प्रशासन चौरासी कुटिया को विकसित करने के लिए हर संभव प्रयास करने में जुटा हुआ है। – मदन सिंह रावत, गौहरी रेंज अधिकारी।
