यूनिफॉर्म सिविल कोड की कमेटी को लेकर सुप्रीम कोर्ट का बड़ा फैसला आया है। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने उत्तराखंड सरकार की ओर से गठित की गई यूसीसी कमेटी को चुनौती देने वाली याचिका को खारिज कर दिया है। उत्तराखंड में समान नागरिक संहिता लागू करने के लिए प्रदेश सरकार ने उच्चतम न्यायालय की पूर्व न्यायाधीश रंजना प्रकाश देसाई की अध्यक्षता में पांच सदस्यीय विशेषज्ञ समिति का गठन किया था।

यूनिफॉर्म सिविल कोड कमेटी राज्य के सभी लोगों के व्यक्तिगत नागरिक मामलों को नियंत्रित करने वाले सभी प्रासंगिक कानूनों की जांच करने और मसौदा कानून या मौजूदा कानून में संशोधन की रिपोर्ट तैयार करेगी। समिति में सिक्किम उच्च न्यायालय के पूर्व मुख्य न्यायाधीश प्रमोद कोहली, पूर्व मुख्य सचिव, पूर्व कुलपति और एक सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता को सदस्य बनाया गया है।

उत्तराखंड सरकार ने यूसीसी पर कमेटी गठित की है। कमेटी गठन को चुनौती देने वाली याचिका को खारिज करते हुए सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने कहा कि कमेटी गठित करने में गलत क्या है। अनुच्छेद 162 में राज्यों को कमेटी बनाने का अधिकार है।
