केंद्र सरकार की नमामि गंगे परियोजना के तहत जोशीमठ नगर के लिए 200 करोड़ की लागत से सीवेज सिस्टम बनाया जाएगा। इसके तहत चरणबद्घ तरीके से पूरे क्षेत्र को जोड़ा जाएगा और अलग-अलग स्थानों पर छोटे-छोटे सीवेज ट्रीटमेंट प्लांट भी बनाए जाएंगे। पहले चरण में 42 करोड़ की लागत से यहां 6.3 किमी लंबी ब्रांच सीवेज लाइन बछाई जाएगी जिससे नगर के 1848 भवनों को जोड़ा जाएगा। इसके लिए उत्तराखंड जलनिगम गंगा इकाई-गोपेश्वर की ओर से प्रस्ताव तैयार किया जा रहा है।

भू-धंसाव प्रभावित नगर को बचाने के लिए अब प्राथमिकता से सीवेज सिस्टम पर जोर दिया जा रहा है। आपदा प्रबंधन सचिव के निर्देश पर नमामि गंगे परियोजना में उत्तराखंड जलनिगम गंगा इकाई ने बीते दो सप्ताह में जोशीमठ नगर का सर्वेक्षण कर सीवेज लाइन निर्माण का खाका तैयार किया है। पहले चरण में नगर में 6.3 किमी लंबी ब्रांच सीवेज लाइन बिछाई जाएगी जिससे नगर के 1848 घरों को जोड़ा जाएगा।

इस सीवेज लाइन को वर्षों पूर्व बने दो सीवेज ट्रीटमेंट प्लांट से जोड़ा जाएगा। इस निर्माण कार्य पर 42 करोड़ रुपये खर्च होंगे। सीवेज लाइन से जोड़ने के लिए जोशीमठ को दस से अधिक भागों में बांटा जाएगा। अगले दो-तीन वर्षों में पूरे जोशीमठ नगर को सीवेज लाइन से जोड़ने का लक्ष्य रखा गया है।स्थानीय निवासी राजेंद्र सिंह राणा, अंकित बहुगुणा, जोशीमठ बचाओ संघर्ष समिति से जुड़े इंद्रेेश मैखुरी का कहना है कि ये प्रयास आज से एक-डेढ़ दशक पहले किए जाते तो वर्तमान हालत नहीं होते।

2011-17 के बीच बिछाई जा चुकी 5 किमी लाइन
जोशीमठ। वर्ष 2011 में नगर को सीवेज लाइन से जोड़ने के लिए काम शुरू किया गया लेकिन वर्ष 2017 तक पांच किमी क्षेत्र में ही सीवेज लाइन बिछाई गई। यह लाइन आज भी शोपीस बनी है। सूत्रों की मानें तो नगर के सिर्फ 10 फीसदी भवन ही सीवेज लाइन से जुड़े हुए हैं। 90 फीसदी भवन (निजी व व्यवसायिक) का सीवेज व ड्रेनेज सिस्टम नहीं है।
