दून-दिल्ली एक्सप्रेस के नीचे गजराज और तमाम छोटे बड़े वन्य जीवों का राजपथ बनाया जा रहा है। वन्य जीवों के गुजरने के लिए भारतीय राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग प्राधिकरण (एनएचएआई) एक्सप्रेस वे के नीचे एलीफेंट कॉरिडोर बना रही है। छोटे वन्यजीवों के गुजरने के लिए एक दर्जन से ज्यादा कैटल अंडर पास बनाए जा रहे हैं। इस तरह दून दिल्ली एक्सप्रेस एशिया का सबसे लंबा वन्यजीव गलियारा बनने जा रहा है।

एनएचएआई की महत्वाकांक्षी परियोजना दिल्ली-देहरादून एक्सप्रेस-वे का निर्माण कार्य तेजी से चल रहा है। अगले साल यानी चुनावी वर्ष तक इस परियोजना को पूरा करने का लक्ष्य है। इस एक्सप्रेस-वे के बनने के बाद दिल्ली से दून तक का सफर केवल ढाई घंटे में पूरा हो जाएगा।

देहरादून से गणेशपुर (यूपी) तक पूरा क्षेत्र राजाजी टाइगर रिजर्व वन क्षेत्र के तहत आता है। ये करीब 20 किलामीटर का इलाका है। एक्सप्रेस वे के दोनों तरफ घने जंगल हैं। इस हिस्से में वन्यजीवों की आवाजाही बनी रहती है। यही वजह है कि परियोजना में 12 किमी हिस्सा पिलर डाल कर हवा में बनाया जा रहा, ताकि नीचे से वन्य जीवों की आवाजाही हो सके। केवल सात किमी हिस्से में ट्रैफिक जमीन पर गुजरेगा। 

आशारोड़ी क्षेत्र में दो एलीफेंट कॉरिडोर का 50 प्रतिशत काम पूरा

दून के आशारोड़ी से डाट काली मंदिर तक 200-200 मीटर के दो एलीफेंट कॉरिडोर बनाए जा रहे हैं। इसकी ऊंचाई सात मीटर होगी। इसके बीच से हाथी भी सड़क के इस पार से उस पार निर्बाध रूप से आ जा सकेंगे। एलीफेंट कॉरिडोर का करीब 50 प्रतिशत काम पूरा हो गया है। इसके अलावा आशारोड़ी से डाट काली मंदिर तक छह छोटे एनिमल अंडर पास (कैटल पास) भी बनाए जा रहे हैं।

इन अंडर पास से बाघ, गुलदार, चीतल और अन्य छोटे वन्यजीव आसानी से आर पार जा सकेंगे। एक्सप्रेस-वे परियोजना में जमीन पर रेंगने वाले सांप बिच्छू और अन्य अति सूक्ष्म जीवों का भी ख्याल रखा गया है। इनके लिए विशेष तौर पर 12 माइनर अंडर पास बनाए जा रहे हैं, जो बरसात में पानी की निकासी का भी काम करेंगे।

डब्लूआईआई के अध्ययन के बाद किया गया गलियारों का चयन

आशारोड़ी क्षेत्र में निर्माणाधीन दो एलीफेंट कॉरिडोर के लिए स्थान का चयन देहरादून स्थित भारतीय वन्यजीव संस्थान (डब्लूआईआई) के तीन साल के अध्ययन के बाद किया गया। इस दौरान संस्थान ने करीब साढ़े तीन किमी हिस्से में कई जगह ट्रैप कैमरा लगाए। इसके बाद संस्थान ने अपनी जो रिपोर्ट दी, उसमें बताया गया कि कहां हाथी गलियारे बनाए जाने हैं, कहां मिनी एनिमल अंडरपास बनाए जाने और कहा माइनर अंडर पास बनाए जाने हैं।
